St Agnes VMCA is situated on the north coast of Cornwall and has fanastic shore and rock fishing opportunity for the experienced and novice visiting sea angler. We are happy to premote responsible sea angling and hope we can all enjoy and preserve this amazing marine habitat.
Starting from the western side of st.Agnes at Porthtowan and to the eastern end of Perranporth beach we have identify 9 great fishing marks, explain the target species , bait to use, time to fish and more importantly the dangers to be aware of.
Porthtowan beach
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Times: 1hr down to low water and fish 2 hrs in OR Fish the last 2hrs before high tide
Dangers: fast incoming tide , DO NOT GET CUT OFF BY TIDE
Chapelporth beach
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Time: 1hr down to low water and fish 2 hrs in OR Fish the last 2hrs before high tide
Dangers: fast incoming tide , DO NOT GET CUT OFF BY TIDE AROUND THE POINTS
Tubbys Head
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot, dog fish ,bull huss ,plaice ,dab and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Time: From low water right up to high tide Dangers: EXTREME CAUTION EXPERIENCE ANGLERS ONLY!! VERY DANGEROUS IF SURF IS BIG, SPEAK TO LIFEGUARD AT CHAPELPORTH IF YOUR UNSURE
St.Agnes Head (under the coastguard lookout)
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot, dog fish ,bull huss ,plaice ,dab,pollack,conger,wrasse and scad.
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night. Spinning with feathers and float fish very successful
Best Time: From low water right up to high tide but fishes all states as deep water.
Dangers: Long steady climb , good footwear required.
Trevaunance Cove
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot ,plaice and dab
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Times: 1hr down to low water and fish 2 hrs in OR Fish the last 2hrs before high tide. Be careful of your tackle as it can be very weedy a lot of the time.
Dangers: fast incoming tide , DO NOT GET CUT OFF BY TIDE
Shagrock
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot, cod, whiting ,dog fish ,bull huss ,plaice ,dab and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Time: All states of tide. Great Rock Platform 40ft UP.Spin for mackerel at high tide Dangers: 40ft from water but waves can break up it in big surf
Droskyn point
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Time: last 3 hrs to high tide. Dangers: Dangerous in bug surf, speak to the lifeguards at Perranporth Beach if your unsure.
Perranporth main beach
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Times: 1hr down to low water and fish 2 hrs in ORFish the last 2hrs before high tide
Dangers: ast incoming tide , DO NOT GET CUT OFF BY TIDE
Penhale
Species: bass, ray, mackerel , turbot and weaver fish
Bait to use: sandeel frozen or alive and worm baits at night
Best Times: 1hr down to low water and fish 2 hrs in OR Fish the last 2hrs before high tide
Dangers: fast incoming tide , DO NOT GET CUT OFF BY TIDE
